Bel-Aqua Dealers [Please take the time to review this page and see Links Below]

The purpose of this web page is to inform our dealers of some of the latest regulatory codes and standards that affect our industry today. Changes in recommended standards and adopted codes are meant to increase the level of consumer safety or protection, and can be viewed as a positive change to past practices.  Bel-Aqua is providing you with some relevant Code information, but all our dealers should make the necessary inquiries to local building officials to determine the latest version of the Building Code in effect in their jurisdiction.

Codes and Standards

It is important for you to understand the difference between Building Codes and Standards.  An (ANSI) Standard is accredited and published by the American National Standards Institute under the authorship of an organization that has expertise on a particular subject, such as APSP.  A Building Code, such as the IBC (International Building Code) or the IRC (International Residential Code), is the main regulatory documentation that sets minimum building requirements.  A Code can adopt all or part of a Standard.  A Code can also change from year to year.  It is ultimately up to the State or local jurisdiction to adopt a certain Code or Code Revision.  Although your State or local jurisdiction may be at a lower code adoption level, you may still want to comply and build to the latest suggested Building Code.

For example: The IBC and IRC had revisions in 2003 and 2006 as pertaining to the use of an SVRS (Safety Vacuum Release System) and Anti Entrapment Drain Covers.  One State may adopt the 2003 IBC, another may adopt the 2006 IBC, while another may still be at the 2000 IBC level.  Eventually, most States and jurisdictions catch up with adoption of the latest Code revisions.  You may feel that building and complying now to the latest revision of the Building Code is a responsible thing to do.

ICC Code Adoption Links - Click on the adoption map below, followed by your State to find out which IBC and IRC Code revision your State has adopted.  Check back frequently to see if your State Code adoptions have changed. Changes are due soon for many States. You should also check with your local jurisdiction.
